How DVDFab DVD Ripper Performed in Our Test
Copy Disc to Digital Formats
We first used a 2-hour DVD movie (about 6.65GB in size) and ripped it to MP4 (H.264) using DVDFab DVD Ripper on a Windows 11 desktop. The overall process felt quite stable. It took around 10 minutes to complete in a 1.09GB file, with an average encoding speed fluctuating between 180 and 210 FPS. We also tested a Blu-ray disc (about 48GB in size) with MKV (H.265) output. It was completed in about 28 minutes. With GPU acceleration enabled, the process will speed up at 30%.
Compression & Output Quality
The output quality is actually the most important part of DVDFab in our test. We evaluated DVDFab DVD Ripper output quality under three encoding modes: H.264, H.265, and MKV Passthrough. With H.264, the final file was around 1.5GB, but we could notice a bit of motion blur in fast-action scenes. H.265 reduces the file size to under 1GB while keeping the image clear and smooth. The MKV Passthrough preserved the original details and produced a bigger file at about 6.1GB. The video looked clearly sharp and vivid, especially in textures and darker areas.
Editor & AI Enhancement Tools
The lightweight editing tools are limited to basic editing and do not include advanced editing features. You can only trim, crop, merge, add subtitles or watermarks, and adjust brightness. The AI enhancer is not as powerful as it says. In our tests, the improvement was only really noticeable when working with higher-quality source files. If your source is low resolution, it cannot restore missing details or repair the damaged videos.
What are Users Saying
Real user feedback can provide important perspective on DVDFab DVD Ripper's performance. Here are some true user reviews from Trustpilot and Reddit.
"DVD Fab 13 works well most of the time when creating movie Mp4s, I did notice that it works best when you only do one movie at one time and that you do not overload it with the other movie trailers and bonus tracks at the same time. "
"I have been using DVD Fab for a long time to back up my collection onto a NAS. And lucky i have as already over 50 titles are not playable on my Oppo 203 due to disc rot."
"The subtitles appear TOO LOW ON THE SCREEN, so low that they are half gone, making them unreadable. I discovered that the subtitles are messed up on EVERY disc, so I have to create the DVDs again."
"I purchased the 365 version of Fab. When I tested the ripper, it crashed my Alienware machine. After, the 3rd crashed and after only 24 hours, I requested a refund."
