Windows has always had a shortcut for printing screens, generally known as the Print Screen key. However, you may have often overlooked its location, or your print screen is not working due to settings. This article will teach you how to use the Windows Print Screen button and resolve the issue if it is not functioning. After trying it out, you may find it so handy.

Use Windows Print Screen to Snip the Full Screen

The quickest and easiest way to intercept the whole screen in Windows 10/11 is to use the "Print Screen" (PrtScn) button on your keyboard. It may also be called "PrtSc", "SysRq", "Print Scr", "Fn + Insert", or "Fn + Shift + F11" on other computers or desktop types. Unlike some keyboard shortcuts that may cause the drop-down menu to disappear, it does not affect the display of applications on the screen. This key is usually located in the top right corner of the function key row.

Step 1Press "PrtScn". After pressing, the entire Windows screen is printed on the clipboard. You can also save it to the Screenshots folder.

Step 2To save the file again, paste the screenshot into a program that allows image insertion, such as Microsoft Word or Paint.

For those who want to intercept the active window, you can use "Alt + PrtScn" to print the screen in Windows 10/11. Please note that in Windows 11, this screenshot may appear slightly unusual. This is because the rounded window corners have been extended to square corners (since image files are always rectangular).

Step This keyboard shortcut intercepts the current active window and saves it to the clipboard. From there, you can paste it into an application that supports images.

Why Windows 11/10/8/7 Print Screen Shortcut Didn't Work

• First, ensure that the Print Screen function on your Windows is already enabled. Press the "Win" button and "U" at the same time to open Easy Access. Click on "Keyboard" to ensure "Print Screen" Shortcuts are enabled.

• If you are using Windows 10, one or more programs may be running in the background that have taken over the function of the computer's Print Screen key. Open the Task Manager, close any unwanted programs, and try again.

• If PrtScn is not working correctly, you can still print the screen on Windows. You can try two other key combinations: Ctrl + Print Screen or Alt + Print Screen may work.

Conclusion

Taking screenshots on Windows is easy with built-in options like PrtScn, Alt + PrtScn, Win + Shift + S, and the Snipping Tool. However, these methods have limitations, such as the lack of instant editing features and advanced customization. For a more efficient and flexible solution, 4Easysoft Screen Recorder is highly recommended. Whether taking quick snapshots or creating detailed screen recordings, it provides a user-friendly and powerful experience.
